The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation
The Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation held their Annual Member’s Meeting today, Thursday January 22, 2015.
After a morning “meet and great” at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes conference center, the meeting began in traditional fashion as required with proof of a quorum, an invocation, recognition passed around the room to Officials, Board of Directors, introduction of sponsors, and finally an approval of the 2014 Member Meeting Summary.
The informative part came a little later in the morning session prior to the introduction of the new President and CEO Jim Moore by Council Member Mark Lazarus. Councilman Lazarus as well as MBREDC Chairman Fred Richardson discussed the new business additions to the Myrtle Beach regional area. These businesses included Accent Stainless Steel, Laudisi Enterprises, and Startek, which is a call center that will eventually employee 615 people. Startek is based in Carolina Forest. Carolina Forest is one of the areas in Horry County that is in a period of tremendous growth.
President Moore laid out some goals and projected paths for the committee. In addition, he spoke about some prospective target industries for the Myrtle Beach area. Further, President Moore touched on all the national headlines Myrtle Beach has made as a top tourist destination, leading the state in job growth and one of the national leaders in new home construction.
